This post begins a new chapter in the blog. I am slowly making the shift from being all about Noah to more all about our lives as a family. That means that I will try and talk more about everything that's going on in our lives and hopefully for our future children. However, since most of our lives revolve around Noah, the blog will still be mostly Noah centered. I am still trying to think of a better name for the blog and any ideas/suggestions are welcome!
So I have contemplated posting about this, but I think that if I can get all my thoughts out and post about this, that I will be able to hold myself to it more. There are a zillion GOOD reasons why I need to be on a diet. They are:
1. I need to lose weight.
2. I want to look and feel better.
3. I want to be a good role model for Noah.
4. I think that by losing weight, it will help my infertility issues.
5. I want to like more foods, particularly healthy foods (i.e. vegetables).
The only reasons against it is that it will be hard and my body is programmed to think all the unhealthy stuff is what is good and yummy. I need to reprogram it to like more new foods that are good for me. From what I understand, once I start this, my body will crave the healthy stuff.
So David and I are both doing this together and we are trying the South Beach diet. Why this diet? Because with my PCOS and insulin resistance, I need to be on a low carb/low GI diet. I hate that this is what it has to be and I can't just watch my caloric intake, but it is what it is and I don't want to be diabetic someday.
So the diet works that the first 2 weeks is Phase 1 and basically all you eat is protein and certain non-starchy vegetables. No fruit. No carbs. Well I shouldn't say no carbs, but VERY limited amounts. I will be the first to admit that this it not healthy for a permanent amount of time, but I do think this will be a good "restart" for me. If I can do this for 2 weeks, I can do limited amounts of carbs for the rest of the time.
In addition to dieting, we will also be working out at least 5/7 days for the first two weeks and then trying to stick with at least 3 days a week after that.
The hardest part will be learning to like new vegetables. But I will try and share my achievements and pitfalls here. Wish us luck!
